HW 13:Blogs and Businesses
I believe that blogs are important for businesses because they help corporations to communicate within the business and communication about other businesses. If a business is able to see what their competitors are doing they can improve on their project and ultimately increase the speed of innovation because they won’t have to release their product to find out what people want from it. Businesses need feedback and comments to survive and make themselves better, if a business puts its product on the blogosphere with its billions of subscribers before the release of the product the business can get feedback and responses before they spend money on putting the product out on the market. Businesses benefit greatly from blogs because they allow a business to maximize profits without having to spend as much money as they did in the past. Blogs also allow for free advertizing and there’s no better advertizing than word of mouth and word of mouth travels faster online. The point is blogs help everyone to get information they want about a product and they save businesses money in the process.
HW 11:Making Global Voices Heard
I looked at the Oh My News blog at http://english.ohmynews.com and I was impressed at the look of it. At first glance, it appears that the bloggers new reporting skills and web page design make this site look like a professionally done news site. If one were to go to cnn.com you’d think that the same people designed Oh My News because at first I thought I’d gone to the wrong site. Oh My News is a very informative website that has information on things that CNN wouldn’t cover and in some cases people care more about the things on Oh My News because the site was written by the public. After looking over this blog my impression was that this site was created by the people for the people and I think that’s how the news should be. I really like the idea of bloggers tackling news stories because then you hear the news from people just like you about things that you actually care about. I give Oh My News a 4.5 out of 5.
HW 9:Waldman Interview
Ayelet Waldman wrote on her weblog Bad Mother about all of her trials and tribulations in front of all her readers. In an interview (Kline and Burstein, 308-314) she stated her opinion that women can meet and share all their experiences without actually physically meeting each other. I agree with her position and think that it may be a very efficient way of sharing experience and wisdom between women from all different backgrounds and ways of life. Never before have people been able to communicate in such a way that they can show everything that they know and everything that has been passed down for generations and it makes other mothers and other women more open to the experience of each other. There are women out in the world that need help and now they know that the place to go is the internet so that they can talk to a real person about real life experiences. Mothers are getting younger and younger these days and they need guidance through their choices because their motherly instinct hasn’t quite kicked in yet and what better experience than that of an experienced mother? The point is it’s easy for everyone to share experience and ideas for very specific problems. I completely agree with everything that she says is true in that she knows that when you write on a blog people read about what you have to say and have something to say in response. Ayelet Waldman is the perfect example of someone who wrote and didn’t really know that anyone was listening until she wrote something that required response.

HW 4:Voice Of THIS Customer
The guitar company known as Ibanez has a reputation for reliability and durability of its products, but what does this company promise to the users of their guitars and equipment? I went online to find out exactly what they say their products are capable of. Right on the index page they proudly display the company slogan “Anything But Traditional” which leads me to believe that their products are revolutionary and different from other guitar companies. The index page of the Ibanez web site gave no information as to the company promise that I was initially looking for so I looked all over the internet for an idea of what the company could promise. www.ultimate-guitar.com offered some insight as to what the promise behind Ibanez products but only offered reviews of the said products. Armed only with the information that these reviews offered I began my quest for the truth and discovered that the general guitar-playing public decided that Ibanez products are far better than most others based on the guitar playing experience that the products offered the player. The reason for this seemed to be the fact that the guitars are made of quality products such as wood as opposed to plastic or fiberglass. This company seems to offer quality products at an affordable price with dazzling looks that make these guitars desirable for any player of any skill level. Many of the products scored a perfect five out of five on these reviews proving my point.
HW 3:Will Blogs Replace Newspapers?
Americans today tend to believe that political dealings are all decided by people’s personal opinions that are influenced by no one else. Blogs prove that this thought is wrong because they allow everyone to share their own personal opinions with everyone else in the world. Sometimes the things that are posted in blogs are so powerful that they can break careers and campaigns or they can help make them successful. Take the example of the congressman who was an advocate against gay rights and marriages but when he was caught having sexual relations with men over a gay phone sex line it was all over the blogs in a matter of days and caused him to step down from his place of power. Another example is the Bush campaign commercial that depicted a presidential speech with a crowd that was doctored in such a way that it showed that more people were in attendance than there actually were. The blogs reported this error and almost immediately the commercial was pulled off the air. Blogs have a way of reporting errors and helping the people who are at fault realize their mistake because there’s no easier way for people to express their opinions and to report the news. Maybe someday blogs will replace newspapers and become the first option for people to get the news.
